Please stop using the Ancient Rome and San Francisco screensavers you downloaded from this site.

HOW:

Use the right mouse button to click on any "empty" part of the screen. Do not right-click on any icons.

From the pop-up menu, choose "Properties". If you do not see Properties listed, try again by right-clicking somewhere else.

The Display Properties dialog box should now be on the screen. Mine looks like this:

Click on the tab marked "Screen Saver".

Click on the down arrow next to where it says "Ancient Rome Screensaver" in the above image. You will now see the list of screensavers available to you.

Choose "Flying Windows" or anything other than "Ancient Rome Screensaver" and "San Francisco Screensaver. You can preview the new screensaver by clicking the "preview" button.

If you want to actually remove the files from your computer, you can delete them from the Windows folder (usually C:\Windows). The file names are "San Francisco Screensaver.scr" and
"Ancient Rome Screensaver.scr". This step is not necessary, however.

WHY:

I had no idea these screensavers would be so popular when I posted them a few years back. The screensavers work by periodically checking bstorage.com for new image files. When new files are available, the screensaver downloads them in the background. Our server log now shows that this checking-for-files activity is occurring thousands of times per minute, meaning a lot of people like San Francisco and Rome.

I'll post a new version of the screensavers soon that will check less aggressively, and will not bog down our server.

Thanks,

Bill
